At the moment, there is no unified, commercial local gas market in Afghanistan, and therefore no representative Afghan market price can be given for natural gas. Bottled gas is imported, and some gas is produced and distributed in Sheberghan; most of it to the Khor-de-Bargh urea plant, and the remainder distributed to 7700 small commercial and residential customers.
It will be necessary to develop a market for gas produced from the blocks now on offer. The GoA is not in a position to provide any guarantees for the future market prices. However, the MoM is planning to propose a pricing philosophy for the future local Afghan gas market.
